Charlie Schultz - Boat Builder

Charlie Schultz from Kent Island, Maryland comes from the Chesapeake Bay boat building tradition. He grew up working at his uncle’s boat yard, Wheeler’s Boat Works, in Baltimore Md which made a local version of a Seabright Skiff for use in Ocean City, Maryland’s lifesaving service. He left Maryland in his 20s vowing “I’ll never touch a boat again” and joined the rodeo circuit where he roped steers for 27 years. It was after he retired that he found his way back to boat building at the Tuckerton Seaport where he can be found with Gus Heinrichs in Perrine’s boat works.
Charlie Schultz is an avid fisherman who splits his time between South Jersey and South Carolina. He is a regular demonstrator at the Tuckerton Seaport and his minnow boxes and boat tables are available in the gift shop.
