Dick Jessen - Carver

Dick Jessen of Manahawkin, NJ carved his first Barnegat Bay style hunting rig when he was 14 years old. Over the years, Dick Jessen’s style has developed through observation, conversation and experimentation in form and painting. Today, Dick Jessen is known for his elegant decoys, he enjoys participating in local and national decoy competitions and has won over 400 blue ribbons and 25 best in show.Dick Jessen’s decoys were featured on Capital Hill in Washington, D.C. in an exhibit titled, “Premier Showing of Landscape and Wildlife from New Jersey’s Best.” He is a regular demonstrator at the Tuckerton Seaport and he was one of six NJ carvers invited to compete in the 2004 Mid-Atlantic Decoy Competition. Dick Jessen also helped organize the Save the Red Knot and Oyster Catcher carving projects.
