Harry V. Shourds
II - Carver
Harry
V. Shourds II of Linwood, NJ is a third generation carver the grandson
of the influencial carver Harry V. Shourds (1861-1920) of Tuckerton, NJ.
Harry Shourds carves a classic Barnegat Bay working decoy with his own
distinctive flair. His decoys have been exhibited at the Ward Museum of
Wildfowl Art and the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum. Harry Shourds and his
decoys have been featured in New Jersey Outdoors, Bird Watcher’s Digest,
and Audubon Society Magazine and in the film, “In the Barnegat Bay Tradition”.
In 1989, Harry Shourds received a National Heritage Fellowship from the
National Endowment for the Arts. The fellowship honors traditional artists
and recognizes lifetime achievement, artistic excellence and contributions
to our nation’s traditional arts heritage.
