Mark Bair - Carver

Mark Bair demonstrating at Tuckerton Seaport

Carver Mark Bair of South Jersey learned to love the Barnegat Bay while spending summers on Long Beach Island. He took his first carving class at the Tuckerton Seaport in 2001 and now carves birds, fish and whimsical folk art. Mark Bair uses a variety of wood species and believes the wood should play a key roll in the development of each carving. He works with traditional hand tools and combines his carvings with found objects and metalworking.

Mark Bairis a charter member and demonstrator at the Tuckerton Seaport where he often finds inspiration for his art. He also enjoys serving as a volunteer at the Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory where he studies and practices the craft of building traditional wooden boats.
