Blue-wing Teal Carving Class—Sold out in October!

Fee: $115 members/ $130 nonmembers Join master carver Jode Hillman for an intensive two day class in which students will learn the methods and techniques needed to carve and paint a Delaware River style Blue-wing Teal.Students may choose a hen or drake to carve and paint. Price includes materials fee. Pre-registration required by January 15, 2010.

Fee: $40 Members/ $45 non-members per dayJoin boat builder Ron Spodofora and other boat building staff for a one day hands on workshop in Perrine’s Boatworks. This class is designed for beginners and boat builders unfamiliar with regional Barnegat Bay boat building methods. It is an introduction to traditional Barnegat Bay boat building tools and techniques, hand and power tools, shop safety and various boat designs of the region. Participants will work with Tuckerton builder Ron Spodofora on one of the traditional boats being built in Perrine’s Boat works. Bring lunch and safety goggles.Pre-registration required by the Wednesday before each class.

Come kickoff this 2010 basket season with this set of fun and functional footstools. Make two nesting footstools with Mary May on Superbowl Sunday! Weave the seat of the footstool. All welcome. Materials fee is $45 per stool. Off

Fee: $75 members/ $85 nonmembers plus $30 materials fee payable to instructor. Spend a carving intensive three days at the Seaport making an antique style sicklebill curlew. Carver Malcolm Robinson will guide participants through the process of carving and painting a shorebird decoy. Bring lunch and carving tools if you have them. Intermediate and advanced carvers welcome. Pre-registration required..

Fused Glass Pendant Class

Sailor Whirligig

"April Arts" Class—Tradition Goes Contemporary!

Paint
- it, shred- it, weave- it! Make your own paper to weave into a basket and then visit our Art Show while your paper is drying. Make a basket in class, and take supplies home with you to make a second basket. Weave a paper basket on a mold and make your own 140 weight paper with an over-dipping application to preserve and harden your basket. Select a size and shape from Mary’s collection of molds. Choices include fishing creel, berry basket, pound fish basket, or eel trap. Basket sizes are smalls (2"-5"range). This class is great for all levels, and the materials fee is $20 per person, payable to instructor the day of the class. Bring lunch and basic weaving tools if you have them. Pre-registration is required by April 12.

Memorial Day Flag Basket

Get ready for Memorial Day with Mary May and weave an 11"x 4"x 8" basket with handle. This wall basket can be woven with or without the colored flag motif. This easy to make wall basket is great for mail or just a gathering place for all your personal needs. Beginners welcome. Bring lunch and basic weaving tools if you have them. Material fee of $20 payable to instructor day of class. Pre-registration is required by May 1.

Popular Picnic Basket

Saturday June 12, 19, and 26

$150 members/ $165 nonmembers plus materials fee
Join Mary May for three Saturdays in June to make a picnic basket you’ll use for years to come! This popular picnic basket is roomy and the lid doubles as a tray. It has two hand carved oak swinging handles and a" filled in bottom." The approximate size is 11"x 15"x 12", and has a Cherokee
-influenced design. This basket touches on many weaving skills, so some weaving experience is helpful. Bring lunch and basic weaving tools if you have them. Materials fee of $55 payable to instructor day of class. Pre-registration is required by June 6.

Youth Basket Camp

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday July 20, 21, 22

Fee: $85 members, $95 nonmembers plus materials fee
Learn the basics of basket weaving with master basket maker Mary May! Each day you will learn to make a new basket, using materials such as reed, paper, and recycled materials. Snacks will be provided, please bring your lunch with you. This class is open to children ages 8
-15. Pre-registration required by July 15.

Woven Eel Trap Class
Instructor: Mary May
August 14

Fee: $75 members/ $85 nonmembers plus materials fee
Learn to weave a traditional woven eel trap. Learn the history of eeling in South Jersey, and make a scaled down version of an eel trap from white oak or reed. Materials fee TBD. Pre-registration is required by August 7.

Harvest Nesting Baskets
Saturday October 16, 23, and/or 30

Per class fee: $45 members/ $55 nonmembers plus materials fee
Join Mary May in October to make a set of nesting baskets. Mary will be at the Seaport on October 16, 23 and 30. Join her for any or all of the days to make your own trio of baskets. This set includes three rectangular baskets that nest inside one another. The basket handle is a carrier handle; it runs the length of the basket, unlike a bonnet handle which runs across. These baskets are handsome, useful and beautiful— come make one or keep returning for all three! The sizes are as follows: small 11"x6, Medium 13"x7, Large 16"x 9. Material fee: small $35, medium $45, large $55. Trio~ price $115. Pre-registration is required by October 10.
