If you cancel in writing at least 48 hours prior to the first day of class, a credit will be issued for a Tuckerton Seaport purchase within one year. Mary Wall Basket

We’ve put our heads together to come up with this exciting basket for Super Bowl Sunday, join Mary May for this popular yearly tradition! We’ll be making a tall wall basket that looks like an archer’s quiver, great for hanging on a door, a wall, or holding wooden utensils in the kitchen. Woven in either twill or continuous weave, this basket is made on a mold and is great for all levels. It’s challenging for those with experience, or can also be a good introductory basket if you haven’t done a lot of weaving. Join the winning team at the Seaport on Super Bowl Sunday! Class is limited to eight people, so sign up now!

Widgeon Decoy Carving Class

Join Master Carver Jode Hillman for an intensive two day class in which students will learn the methods and techniques needed to carve and paint a Delaware River style widgeon decoy. Students may choose a hen or drake to carve and paint; painting will be done in oils.

Spend a great afternoon at the Seaport learning to make delicious chocolate candies! We'll be making molded chocolates, chocolate bark with mix-ins, and dipped treats. While the chocolate is setting, make your own homemade Valentines! Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent. Pre-registration is required by February 12, 2015.

Join Lora Sparks of the Seaport Stitchers to make this sweet penny rug from felt. Enjoy hand sewing while learning the blanket stitch on this 12” circle rug. Needle, threads, pre-cut felt and heart buttons are included in the kit. Pre-registration is required by February 7, 2014.

 

Rain Barrel Workshop

One for You, One to Give: Napkin Baskets

Join Mary for a class that is fun for everyone and great for beginners, too! In this class you will make two baskets that are perfect for decorating- use one to hold your everyday napkins and use the cocktail napkin basket as a hostess gift. These baskets became a hit last year and now you can make them too! Everyday napkin size is 8”lx8”wx31/2”h and the cocktail napkin is 6”x6”x3/12’’. Pre-registration is required by April 4, 2015.

Try your hand at the oldest form of printmaking. Starting with a simple image, we will carve blocks of wood, then ink and print the images. All levels welcome. Pre-registration is required by April 11, 2015.

Wool Felted Gnome Class

Experience the art of needle felting wool by creating a one-of-a-kind gnome. Gnomes have been said to be seen in South Jersey - especially on sheep farms! Niki Giberson of Swan Bay Folk Art Center in Port Republic will lead you in making this fun project. Gnomes are 3-4” tall and all are unique! Pre-registration is required by May 11, 2015.

Mark Bair Fish Class 2013

Ice fishing decoys are a very collectible form of folk art. In this two-day class, Mark Bair will take you through all the steps to create your very own vintage-style ice fishing decoy. Topics covered will include: material selection, mechanics of the working decoy, carving techniques, painting, and antiquing. Each student will leave Sunday afternoon with their very own one-of-a-kind piece of folk art. No previous carving experience is necessary.

 

Sparks Coaster

Learn the joy of hand sewing and hand quilting! Lora will teach you how to do English paper piecing using reusable plastic templates on these 5” hexagon coasters. Get into the summer spirit at the Seaport with this beautiful picnic basket, with Cherokee accents. You will carry your basket using two oak swing handles and use the woven lid as a tray. This basket measures 17 inches long x 10 inches wide x 8 inches high with the handles down. Please note that this class is three days long. Pre-registration is required by July 5 2015, as time is needed to gather this material.

Sparks table mat

Octagon Table Mat

Bring your sewing machine with thread and Lora will teach you how to make this 16” Carpenter’s Star table mat using half-square triangles. Your sewing machine must have a walking foot or dual feed foot for quilting. Kit includes pre-cut fabric and batting. Kit colors will vary. Pre-registration is required by August 30, 2015.

Join us at Christkindlmarkt to make Mary’s signature basket. Learn about the traditional South Jersey berry basket, and weave a basket on a mold. This class is great for beginners and more experienced weavers. This class is open to all ages, we ask that children under 10 have a parent help. Space is limited, so pre-registration is recommended, but walk-ins are also welcome.

Start the year off weaving, with a great class suitable for beginners and beyond! This wall basket was selected by 2013 weaving student! The simple flat back basket with a rounded front includes contrasting curls and an oak bushel handle. Basket is 8” long, 9” high, and 1 ½” wide. This basket will look beautiful hanging on your wall!

It’s an annual tradition! Spend Sunday weaving a very special basket with Mary May! low d handle square basket.  The work is in the base of this basket and waving comes up the sides about 3-1/2’’ approximate size 10x10 square.  I call this a show off basket; it is low and shows off whatever you want to place inside it- even the herbs.

Interested in creating your own traditional folk art? Come out and use hand tools to carve a "Hand of God" Weathervane. In this class you'll learn about carving, painting and antiquing skills that you will use to create your own work of folk art. Included in the class are all the tools and materials needed to create a 22" long weathervane as well as a museum quality steel display stand. Beginners through advanced carvers are welcome.

Fishermen used it to hold their catch, and their wives used it to hold their laundry- Get ready for Baymen’s Seafood and Music Festival by making a traditional NJ commercial fishing basket. Learn the history of this great basket, and then make either a full size basket (17” diameter) or a half-size basket (10” diameter).

Learn the story of the archer basket and weave this great traditional NJ basket! This round 8 over 8 continuous weave technique the approximate sixe 8 “ round at base x 7” tall includes oak bonnet handle. As Mary says, “This is a wonderful locally made traditional Jersey basket. This basket started me weaving, and I’m excited to bring the wonderful basket to you!”

Join Mary for a fun and unique twist on a traditional egg basket, made using a pastry blender. “No electricity, as always our hands are our tool. The whimsical rib egg basket is a fun use of a kitchen tool we don’t use anymore.” Approximate overall size 6 inches.
