The Collector’s Collection: Jim & Deb Allen
Tuckerton Seaport and Baymen’s Museum – Hunting Shanty
Open Daily 10am-5pm
Exhibition Reception September 23 & 24 10am-4pm
The Collector’s Collection: Jim & Deb Allen, now on display in the Hunting Shanty of the Tuckerton Seaport and Baymen’s Museum, doesn’t showcase the rarest or most monetarily valued decoys in the Allen’s extensive collection. Instead, the exhibit focuses on the value beneath the surface of the objects themselves. A value found in the emotional connection between these specific decoys and Jim & Deb’s family, friends, and mentors. The true story of what has driven these collectors to collect is imbibed in the sentiment and memory that accompanies each piece in this exhibit.
Comprised of decoys ranging from a miniature Merganser (carved by Jim & Deb’s son when he was 10 years old) to the first decoy in Jim’s collection, a H.V. Shourds, Oldsquaw (given to him by his father), the exhibit also includes an assortment of other memorabilia such as family photographs, timeworn hunting licenses, and other decoy-related memorabilia.
Since the 1970’s, Tuckerton native, Jim Allen and his wife, Deb, have amassed an extensive collection of New Jersey and Delaware Bay decoys. Having grown up in the Barnegat Bay, Jim has a deep knowledge of boats, duck hunting, fishing and other quintessential baymen activities. This background coupled with friendships and mentoring from the likes of John Hillman and Bud Ward make him an expert in the decoy field.
Jim Allen will be on site to provide free decoy identification and appraisal during exhibit reception hours on September 23rd & 24th.
